Smart, I have my Device Manager back again now! Using a nifty tool called RegMon that shows everything happening in the registry. I opened up device manager and saw lots of entries in 'HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet\PCI' there were lots of clearly corrupt entries along the lines of $%&'()+,-./0123 repeated over and over and over. I just deleted these, and the ones in ControlSet001 and ControlSet003 and it'sback!
Fantastic! My PC is back to normal (ish).
